Good People Bless My Life and Warm My Heart

Brigham has had Dr. H as his dr since he was three months old. He had his quarterly visit with him today. I took all three boys with me. This Dr has been so good to our family. I am very grateful for him. Both Silas and Brigham have been having coughs and fevers. So, even though Silas was not his patient, he went ahead and checked Silas's ears and found a red, bulging ear. He also went ahead and ordered antibiotics for him. He just saved me a $30 copay! Also, during the appt Brigham had to use the bathroom and I was looking at the little ones thinking...uh what do I do with them? Dr. H said, "I'll stay here with the kids". He pulled out his laptop and put on curious George for them. Brigham takes 50mg of gleevec every day. Dr H said "we had a bottle of 400mg tablets that I was trying to figure out how to cut into eighths to give to you, but it's too hard to cut that small". He also mentioned to us that Brigham could qualify for a Make a Wish and he would be happy to send in an application for him.

A neighbor of mine heard my kids were sick and brought us dinner tonight. That was so wonderful that I wanted to cry. I got home from the dr appointment with Brigham and within 15 minutes, dinner had arrived and was warm and ready to eat .

These are two examples of two wonderful people who bless my life. My life is filled with these people. I am so grateful for the wonderful people in my life that warm my heart and add brightness and sunshine to every day.

FHE with Dr. Si

We have had a breakthrough with family home evening! Who knew all I had to do was finally put our names on an FHE chart! Wow, the excitement it created for Brigham knowing that he had his own responsibility. The stability and organization it created. Why it took me so long....who knows?
Tonight we sang "Nephi's Courage" which Brigham led beautifully but mom didn't play on the piano so beautifully. We had a special guest come and give our lesson tonight...it was Dr. Si. Yes, he came in wearing his white lab coat (or was it a dress? I don't know, it did go all the way down to the floor) and came in carrying his Dr. Bag. He did a check-up on Dad, Brigham, and Adam. Took their temperature, blood pressure, listened to their hearts, looked in their ears (it turns out Brigham has spiders in his ears), and even gave them a shot. Then he gave a spiritual checkup and pulled out the spiritual Dr kit. It had scriptures, a picture of a boy praying, a beaded temple, and some hearts (for loving and serving). We need to keep our spirits strong by doing those things.
We then had treats, a beat boxing contest, and a stick pull game. Fun fun! I wonder who the special guest will be next week....hmmm?

My Best Friend!

Who is your best friend on this earth? Do you know right away without a doubt who it is? Why are they your best friend?
I want to tell you about my best friend and the qualities that he possesses. I don't mean to boast of this treasure of mine, but I hope to thank this individual from the bottom of my heart and to inspire others to be a true friend.
My best friend does not judge others. Of course he makes judgments, but he has a gift of wisdom and understanding. He can see all aspects of a situation and will readily recognize the good and the positive. My best friend will easily forgive and does not hold a grudge. My best friend listens to me and allows me to pour out my emotions. My best friend serves me and seeks to make me happy. My best friend cares more about me and my needs than he does about himself. My best friend works hard. My best friend takes time for me every day. My best friend tells me I am beautiful when I haven't showered or done my makeup and my hair is a mess.  My best friend is a joy to be around. My best friend has the same standards as me. My best friend knows all my weaknesses and follies and yet he still loves me and sees me for the person I can become. He knows my passions and dreams and encourages me. He makes me happy. I am so grateful that this is the man I get to spend eternity with! Thank you, my dear sweet, best friend and beloved companion! Thank you for being my true best friend! I love you, Doug!

Oh yeah! And he can beat box! Below is a pic of him beat boxing. :)

Moody Mommy

Snapping at my kids and my husband, feeling sorry for myself. That was the moody mommy monster of me yesterday.  It was a culmination of a lot of things: I haven't been terribly sick, but I have been somewhat sick for two weeks. It's like having a cloud over you and it just won't go away.  I was just fed up with not being well. I had kids demanding of me...,"Mom..I want a sammich!", " Mom, get me some soup!" Silas is now coughing and has had fevers and a runny nose; poor little guy, but I was also thinking about myself. You see this messed up our weekend plans. We keep splitting up our family this weekend because one of us has to stay home with sick little Silas. I was bummed I had to miss out on my sister-in-law's basketball game. Wow, talk about a selfish attitude! I realized this when I was alone with Silas and Adam and serving them snacks. I also realized that I didn't read my scriptures yesterday. How easy it is to get a moody and selfish attitude when we don't start out the day right and invite the spirit to be with you. When you are not focusing on others and just consumed with your own self.
I am extremely blessed. So many others have poor health all the time. So many others, I am sure, had a day yesterday that was ten times harder than mine and I am sure that they were much more positive and handled hints better than I did.

Sorry to my family who had to deal with me yesterday. Although I am staying home with Silas and Adam today and we will miss out on church and on a family gathering... I am grateful today and I am happy. I am not thinking about myself, but of other needs. It feels much better. I hope everyone is having a great day!

Brigham's excitement

Brigham has been looking forward to his birthday since the day after Christmas. His birthday isn't until the 24th of February, but he knows that the next birthday in the family after Dad's is his. So he is especially excited for his birthday. But, it's not just his birthday, it's birthdays in general he is excited about. I brought him home a calandar and the first thing he wanted to do was write down when everyone's birthday was and he had to figure out what day of the week it was on and everything. He was thrilled to find out that Silas's birthday was also in Father's Day this year. Yesterday he made birthday cards for Silas and Adam and he said, "mom, can you save these for Silas and Adam's birthdays?" He watched me carefully when I put them away so he knew where they were too. To show he was satisfied he nodded his head and said,"K!"

A couple of things I learned from my kids:
Beach and sand toys are also awesome for snow.
Adam has learned how to make a clean room look like a tornado blew through it in just a few minutes.
You do things you don't feel like doing because you love your kids more. (Like go door to door for a fundraiser so your son can earn a remote control helicopter)

Have a great day!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

A beautiful blanket of snow awaited us when we woke up this morning. It's been so dry and bare this winter that I welcomed it. What a wonderful blessing of needed moisture to be poured down on us.
What little amount of snow we have received has been too powdery to even make a snowball. There was a little snow a few weeks ago that I thought was good packing snow. I stuffed my three little men in their bibs and boots and coats because they were so excited to build a snowman. By the time we got outside, the temperature had dropped significantly. The snow turned dry and powdery. Brigham and Silas were disappointed. Adam was happy to get out of his snow gear and have his full range of motion again.
Today's snow was sticky!!!! When I asked Silas if he wanted to go out and play in the snow he smiled and said, "yeah!" Adam was asleep and Brigham was still at school. So Silas and I started rolling balls (ok, so I rolled the balls and Silas helped push one of the balls for about ten seconds. He preferred to eat the snow). We finished our three balls for the snowman and waited for Brigham to do the arms and face. When Doug and Brigham got home Silas was screaming excitedly, "we're building a snowman!" I didn't know he was so excited about it because he was just eating snow.
A snowman is a magical thing to little boys.

My Little Happy Thought

When I was pregnant with Adam and getting close to deliver, I was getting scared and nervous. How could I do three children? Not only was he my third, but he was only 15 months younger than Silas. When Adam was laid on my chest after delivery, I cried and fell in love and all of my fear was swallowed up in the joy of this sweet baby. Adam has been my happiest baby and never needed a pacifier. He has been a rich blessing to me. He also has a calming effect on me that literally soothes my soul. My heart melts and I smile when he is around. It might be his little chubby legs running down the hall or that he carries Silas's potty around saying "bing bing"; it might be that he thinks so many things are funny and giggles all the time; perhaps it's because he mumbles everything and calls his milk "mok", or today he was calling hats "daddy" because he knows daddy wears hats. I love how he copies his brothers and wants to be with them. Whatever the reason, he just is my little happy thought.
I love all of my children with my whole heart, I just wanted to mention some gifts of Adam today.
